Decisions, Decisions: Why You Should Hire An Interior Designer-Part 1
If you are about undergo a major renovation in your home, are you thinking of hiring an interior designer? Let me share a list of just a few of the MANY tasks designers perform to help take the stress & decisions off your plate so you can make an informed decision! I feel there is so much imperative information you should know, so I will be breaking this up into smaller, easy to read parts to make up a series!
Selection of Finishes: From floor tile to wall tile to wood flooring to paint colors to hardware and hinges. These selections are what most people are aware of when they think about what decisions they will need to make when beginning a renovation and can make on their own. Homeowners head to their nearest Lowe’s or Floor & Decor to make their selections. Most of the time you will NOT find your designer sourcing from either of these, as there are not always warranties associated with the product which is especially important when something goes NOT as planned (which is pretty inevitable in a renovation). Designers have access to a WIDE range of brands, you would never even know about if you did not work with them. These brands come with direct representatives assigned to your designer that often know your designer by name. If there is an issue with the product or if your installer has questions, they will be connected directly to a real human’s AKA your designer’s rep. Additionally, your designer is aware of the quality from the brands they are recommending, which is not something they can always guarantee when shopping from the previously mentioned retailers.
Sizes of Finishes: Think hardware size for cabinets (This is one of the number one things I see that are a tell sign if a designer was involved on a project or not!), Tile Size, Grout Size (You do NOT want to get this wrong! This can affect the quality of your tile install over time…AKA grout cracking!), proper light fixture height & width, countertop thickness, wall base height, crown molding height, sink depth & width, faucet spout reach, the list continues to go on!
To be continued!
